Production and material

Cotton
We use cotton from Agrocel Industries Ltd I northern India (www.agrocel-cotton.com). The cotton is organic and produced under fair conditions. Agrocel supports small scale and organic production where the cotton-farmers are guaranteed a level of compensation that is enough to support a family. The cotton is spun by MLR Mills who is GOTS 2 certified (Global Organic Textile Standard) and they also guarantee fair working conditions for their employees. The fabric is then dyed with GOTS 2 certified colors before it’s transported to Dem Collectives factory in Sri Lanka, where the clothes are produced. Dem Collective is a Swedish company that applies the same policy regarding working conditions and salaries as Agrocel and MLR Mills.

Hemp
Besides cotton we also use organic 100% hemp, and a mix between 45% cotton/55% hemp in our collection. The growing of industrial hemp is very environment friendly and the hemp can be cultivated in large parts of the world. It’s easy to grow organically since it doesn’t need fertilizers or pesticides. It’s roots grow deep and helps prevent erosion. Hemp adds nutrition to the soil and can be grown year after year without the need to switch crops. In combination with cotton, the hemp is a smooth and cool fabric. The fabric is also durable and stain repellent. Our clothes with cotton/hemp mix are from Eco Design who’s factory in Qing Dao, China, is IMO (Institute for Marketecology) GOTS certified. They are also Oeko®-tex Standard 100 certified which means that their dye-baths have been tested and doesn’t contain hazardous substances. The employees at Eco Design doesn’t work more than 8 hours/day and get paid more than 20% above the areas average salary. They are also guaranteed a fair working environment and health insurance.

Merino wool
We can also offer clothes in 100% merino wool. The wool fiber has a rippled structure that binds large quantities of air and thereby provides good insulation. Wool from the merino sheep is among the finest wool there is, and can contain up to 40 ripples per cm which makes merino wool clothing suitable for both warm and cold conditions. The wool is nature’s own function material – it’s still warm when damp and at the same time, it leads moist away from the skin. Of course, our merino wool is taken from certified farms where the sheep isn’t put through the agonizing and cruel mulesing process. The process involves a surgical operation where the back part of living lamb is skinned without anesthetic. The operation is made to prevent attacks from the blow-fly, but the attacks can be prevented by good care and frequent cutting of the wool.
